the hatch was an absolute disaster (11/7/25)

the date is june 7th. it has been 5 years since the last egg hunt. at this point almost everyone has lost hope for the event making a return anytime, until the big man david himself posted a tweet hinting at an egg hunt. everyone went wild over these news, and it looked like we were about to get one of the best events we've ever had in years

little did everyone know, it would turn out to be a HOT MESS

this is the story of how we got the worst egg hunt in the history of egg hunts.

how it all began

actually, the story doesn't actually begin on the 7th of june, we got leaks 8 days before the big tweet! people were snooping on a dev's inventory, when they found 2 whole egg assets just sitting there

considering that multiple leaks have come from these dev inventories, people instantly started getting their hopes up for an egg hunt. "is this real?" "are we actually getting an egg hunt?" well boy oh boy their questions were answered, because we got THIS

a tweet inside twitter by david baszucki with the handle '@DavidBaszucki'. the tweet reads 'For the next Roblox event we're thinking about honoring the structure of our universe. Everything is built with fundamental elements...' with an attached image. the image shows 10 random elements scattered across in the shape of egg shells.

and even better, star creators were being sent eggs to their house. it was only a matter of time until we were given the confirmation that it was truly happening, and on the 11th of june, it was fully announced and was coming out on the 2nd of july. surely, SURELY roblox can't fumble the bag, right?

...right?

the downfall

first off, this was not going to be a giant game like the previous egg hunts. it was a dev hunt, but at this point very little people cared, we were still getting an egg hunt.

second, there were going to be 1000 GAMES. 1000 INDIVIDUAL GAMES. it was gonna be the biggest dev hunt we've ever had, but people started wondering if we were gonna get an unique egg for each game or if it's just gonna be some sort of token that can be used to unlock like 20 eggs. spoiler alert: we got the latter.

later on, we got news that we didn't have to actually play every single game, since eggs would vary per user, meaning that you only need to play a handful for each egg instead of hundreds of games. pretty cool!

now, you might be wondering: "hey this doesn't look THAT bad, did you really title this part as the downfall just because of some little nitpicks???" well no actually, it was for something MUCH worse:

THEY INVITED A CONDO GAME DEVELOPER INTO THE EVENT.

that's right, they invited a developer that makes dating games on a platform directed towards CHILDREN, and of course, people lost their shit over this.

all of a sudden, many people started boycotting the hatch, to the point where developers where dropping out of the event and getting a hashtag TRENDING on twitter. and btw, this developer (TheOfficialTeddy) has been doing this for 3 years while facing minimal consequences. it was clear that this event fell apart, and it was time for roblox to can it and move on. but THEY DIDN'T

the event launched like normal, and even though teddy wasn't participating in the event anymore, whether it was him leaving or getting kicked out, people didn't care at all and continued to boycott it

i've written a lot of bad things about this event, and this was BEFORE it launched, but now that it's out, what is it actually like? is it good? is it bad? imo, even though i completed all of the quests and got all (free) items, i think it sucked, but it still had some cool bits.

the good

  • the map is amazing. the people at twin atlas did an amazing job with it, and i had a lot of fun completeing the quests involving the map itself (except the air obby)
  • the rewards aren't actually that bad. i may not be using them, but most of the rewards look alright (especially the prismatic e.g.g head, that one's a REAL egg)

the bad

  • it's a dev hunt. we may have gotten an egg hunt, but nobody wants to go around hopping through different games. people want a singular game where all of the eggs are in it, not just some slop thrown around
  • the games. the games are what ruined the event. 99% of games participating were slop that either took 10 seconds or 20 minutes to get one egg (i'm not kidding when i say this, i spent 20 minutes on a flying gorilla obby. i could make a whole post about this game). a lot of them are obvious cashgrabs aswell, with obnoxious popups saying: "you wanna buy a gravity coil? it only costs 40000 robux! also PLEEEEEEEEEEEASSSSSEEEEEEE DON'T LEAVE OUR GAME WE HAVE REWARDS FOR YOU DON'T LEAVE"
  • the actual eggs stink. they're not eggs that go on your head like the old ones, they're just little eggs floating around your avatar, which sucks a lot

conclusions

the event sucks. roblox should've just scrapped it and reworked the event for a future date. the ratings on the game show how bad it is, with a whopping 1% like/dislike ratio, surpassing the dislike counts for the innovation awards hub, all of the recent events COMBINED, and egg hunts 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 in under 24 hours. most of these aren't because of the teddy controversy either, they're because the event in general is ass, as seen by the graph below:

a graph showing the like to dislike ratio of the hatch event. before the beginning of the event, the game had a 72% like to dislike ratio. 1 day later, it dropped to 28%. as of the 11th of july, it is currently sitting at a 21% like to dislike ratio.

and i've saved the best for last: this event was so bad, that it made fifteam (the people behind the 2018 egg hunt) to announce that they were working on their own egg hunt for 2026, even if they can't offer any UGC eggs. absolute cinema.

i think i've rambled for long enough, so it's time for me to say goodbye! don't forget to eat your veggies
